Tires

Balancing and rotating the tires on your vehicle helps them last longer. If they have even a small amount of uneven wear that you can’t see, rotating them ensures that one tire doesn’t wear out before the others.

When it’s time for new tires, Kanuga Tire & Auto has what you need. We also do a free alignment check with every new tire installation. This helps to ensure your tires wear evenly and get you the most mileage possible.

Contact Kanuga Tire & Auto in Hendersonville, NC when you need tire repair or new tires. You can call us at (828) 697-2860 or stop by our shop at 432 Kanuga Road, Hendersonville, NC 28739.

What Tire Tread Wear Patterns Mean

Looking at the tread wear patterns, you can tell whether you need new tires.

  • If the tread is wearing in the center of a tire, the tire has too much air pressure. Check the tire information placard on the interior of your driver’s side door jamb for the proper pressure needed for your vehicle and deflate to that amount.
  • If the tread is wearing evenly on both edges of the tread, the tire doesn’t have enough air pressure. Check the tire information placard on the interior of your driver’s side door jamb for the proper pressure needed for your vehicle.
  • If the tire shows feathering across the tread, it is possible that the vehicle is misaligned, or you might have an issue with the suspension.
  • If the tire is wearing only on one side of the tread, you have an issue with the suspension or alignment. Our mechanics can put the vehicle on the alignment rack to check the tires.

When you have your tires checked, you should ask about tire balancing and rotation. If you have no reason to check the tires and haven’t been in the shop for a while, our auto technicians in Hendersonville, NC can balance and rotate the tires during your next oil change.

How to Tell When Your Car Needs New Tires

If the tires still have plenty of tread and are not wearing unevenly, the tires are probably fine. When the tread gets low, you can also check the tires with the head of a penny.

Stick a penny in the ribs of the tire tread with Lincoln’s head facing you. If Lincoln’s head is partially hidden, you have more than 2/32-inch of tread. However, if you can see Lincoln’s whole head, you have less than 2/32-inch tread, and you need new tires as soon as possible.
